Giving Back

A great document of what David Garfield's music is all about. His unique blend of jazz, R&B, blues, latin and soul is taken to new heights. Continuing and developing the tradition of bands like Steely Dan, 'Giving Back' is a brilliant musical statement of what contemporary jazz should be.
Bound by a unique groove, various styles mix to become one giant enjoyable music feast. From the fusion-esque 'Tune For Tony', to the smoother 'Desert Hideaway' to the brazilian influenced 'Two Bunch Samba' to the soulful 'Time Will Tell' and 'For The Love Of You' to the groovy 'Sweet PC', 'Giving Back' is a truly emotional musical journey.
Featuring a stellar line-up including Alex Ligertwood, Lee Ritenour, Vinnie Colaiuta, Jimmy Earl, Steve Ferrone, Michael O'Neill, Lenny Castro and Freddie Washington to name but a few.

Tribute To Jeff (Revisited)

This album could serve as a summary of what studio musicians really are : exceptional artists who mastered all styles of music, made them their own and play with endless taste and feeling.
Recorded in tribute to the late great Jeff Porcaro, this album features 75 of the best musicians in the world including top drummers like Vinne Colaiuta, Carlos Vega, Steve Gadd, Steve Ferrone or Abraham Laboriel Jr. as well as the cream of the crop of L.A. studio cats (Neil Stubenhaus, Michael Landau, Luis Conte, Jimmy Johnson, Abraham Laboriel Sr., Leland Sklar, Freddie Washington, Lenny Castro, Paul Jackson Jr. , Jeff's bandmates in Toto, etc). From be-bop to (hard) rock, this album left no musical stones unturned. An absolute must have.
I Am The Cat.. Man!

Probably David's album that sounds the most like his live gigs. All of his influences are presented : fusion, rock, jazz, latin, brazilian, pop. From an instrumental version of 'Strawberry Fields' to 'Memories of Rio' to 'Down On My Luck' to a fiery latin version of 'Layla' (worth alone the admission price !) to ballads, this album is a wonderful musical melting pot.
Despite the large variety of styles, listeners will not be taken aback as David's unique style serves as conductor/guide through this musical journey. Features a stellar line-up including Vinnie Colaiuta, Jimmy Johnson, Michael Landau, Gregg Bissonnette, Lenny Castro, John Pena and many others.

L.A. Keybord Project

How many musicians have invited other musicians playing the same instrument to be featured as solo artists on their own solo record? Not a lot. David Garfield did not only invited one guest artist but five of the most renowned keyboards players of the last 20 years. David Paich (Toto, sessions), David Witham (George Benson), Russell Ferrante (Yellowjackets) and Terry Trotter (Larry Carlton, 'Everybody Loves Raymond') are each featured as soloist on this excellent album firmly rooted in the contemporary jazz / fusion style. No covers only original tunes. Superb from A to Z.
Music From The Riding Bean

This album is somewhat different from any other Garfield's recordings as it was written with a specific frame in mind, i.e. to accompany a Japanese animation movie. This record shows a much less jazzy side of David's playing. It is actually the album where his rock influences are the most visible.
Despite the given structure, Garfield managed to record music that stand on its own and do not sound 'out of place' without the images it was created to accompany. With hints of Led Zeppelin, Tower of Power, ZZ Top or Weather Report, 'Music From The Riding Bean' is a very eclectic piece of work that will please open minded listeners.
Recollections

A wonderful collection of mostly jazz standards dusted off by an amazing line-up featuring, amongst others Walt Fowler, Brandon Fields, the late John Guerin and Abraham Laboriel.
Not happy to bring new life to 'Naima'or 'Airegin', Garfield also offer an interesting version of Sting's 'An Englishman In New York'. The mood is definitively set in a 'straight ahead / be-bop' mood. Fans of Coltrane, Parker, Miles and the be-bop era in general will enjoy this wonderful album.
